Economic News

The UK and India finalized a Free Trade Agreement eliminating tariffs on 99% of Indian exports and 90% of UK goods. Key sectors include textiles, gems, and automotive. The deal also provides relief on national insurance for Indian workers in the UK, despite criticism from some UK groups.

The Bank of England cut its base interest rate from 4.5% to 4.25%, aiming to stimulate growth amid easing inflation. Homeowners with tracker or variable rate mortgages could save £14–£29 per month. Fixed-rate mortgages may also benefit, with rates expected to drop below 3.5% later in 2025.

The UK and US have agreed on a landmark economic deal that eliminates tariffs on UK steel and aluminium and reduces car export tariffs from 27.5% to 10% for up to 100,000 vehicles annually. This agreement is expected to save thousands of jobs in the UK car manufacturing and steel industries.
